B.Sc. in Forestry is a 4-year full-time undergraduate course divided into 8 semesters. The primary aim of the program is to train students in Forestry. The duties of forestry professionals include:


  • conserving forest and forest resources
  • managing forest resources
  • conserving and protecting wildlife
  • developing forest and forest resources
  • maintaining awareness of latest technology used in the field of Forestry.

Students enrolled to the course are taught:


  • ethics, values and morals related to the field of forestry.
  • how decisions are made with regard to water resource issues, land conservation, and soil erosion.
  • the importance of water in relation to earth.
  • water cycle
  • methods of water distribution on the planet.
  • preservation of water
  • how current water issues affect modern forestry
  • fire ecology and management
  • the role that fire plays on earth, and what it does to forests and natural resources. forest and wildlife restoration after fires.
  • wildlife management in species-specific sections.
  • fish management, fowl management, small mammal management or predator management.
  • characteristics of different wildlife species and their effect on their habitats.
  • about factors that threaten the earth's natural resources and ecology.
  • problem-solving ideas and techniques for ecological restoration.

The average annual course fee in India ranges between INR 5,000 and 3 lacs, depending upon the institute offering the course.


The average annual salary offered in India to successful graduates of the course ranges between INR 2 and 10 lacs, depending upon the candidate’s expertise in the field.


Candidates aspiring for admission to the course are required to fulfill the following minimum eligibility criteria.

  • 10+2 in the Science stream, completed from a recognized educational Board.
  • A minimum aggregate score of 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) at the level of graduation.
  • Candidates appearing in their final 10+2 exams are also eligible to apply for the course on provisional basis.


Most institutes offering the course admit students based on their performance in a relevant entrance test. Some institutes conduct their own entrance tests for offering admission. Admission process generally varies across colleges.


A few institutes also provide direct admission based on the candidate’s score at the 10+2 level.


Candidates who have qualified the All India Entrance Exam of ICAR are eligible for admission to agricultural universities that offers forestry courses.
