Hi,
There are a few characteristics that are common with all the sonnets. There are:
1. They are 14 lines long
2. They have a regular line scheme and
3. Strict metrical construction which is usually a iambic pentameter
"The world is too much with us" is a petrarchan sonnet.
The poem was written by William Wordsworth and the main theme of the poem is basically the idea of this modern people. The fact that we are not connected to the world and especially the world of nature. He makes it a point that we have been alienated and isolated from the world of nature.
Hope this helps.
