What are the courses provided by physics departments of iits, nits and other national level institutes opted through gate XE?
Hello Aspirant,
It's not the best option for you if you want to work for a PSU, but you can certainly apply if you want to enrol in a master's programme in technology at an IIT or NIT. If your degree meets the eligibility requirements, such as having a degree in mechanical engineering and taking the GATE XE exam, you'll be excellently qualified for an M.Tech in the aforementioned discipline. However, many older IITs, such as the IITKGP and IITK, have courses like material, cryogenic, aerospace, etc. that permit XE paper qualified candidates to take participation in the admission process at par with the most competitive gate papers, like ME and CH.
You might be surprised to learn that a candidate with a degree in mechanical engineering and a GATE score in the ME paper would have difficulty enrolling in the courses because XE has less competition than ME does, and there are seats allocated for each combination of degree and GATE score in the interdisciplinary courses mentioned above and many others. Therefore, it would be relatively simpler for a candidate with a degree in mechanical engineering and a GATE paper in XE to enrol in those courses. Consult the iitkgp brochure for m.tech. admission from last year for a better understanding and idea.
Wishing you luck
