Hi,

Admissions to all medical (except AIIMS and JIPMER) and dental colleges are carried out through NEET from 2017 onwards. Following the declaration of NEET results, qualified candidates will have the option of applying for admissions to four different types of institutions through different application forms and processes. They may also have more options depending on the seats/institutions they are eligible for such as ESIC or other states offering admissions to non-domicile candidates in its colleges. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), appointed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), is by itself responsible for admissions to 4 of the different types of institutions a NEET qualified candidate can apply for.

These details are as given below:

  • Admissions to 15% of the seats in every Government college in every state (excluding Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir) are conducted by the DGHS. These are the All India Quota (AIQ) seats. If a candidate wishes to take admissions to a Government medical or dental college located in a state outside one’s own, then they will have to fill the All India Quota Counselling form released by the DGHS, and depending on their rank and score in NEET, they will be eligible for admissions to Government colleges in other states depending on the choices filled by them.

  • The DGHS also conducts admissions for 100% of the seats at Central and Deemed Universities including AMU and BHU and a few others which are spread across different states. Interested candidates can fill a separate online form as released by the DGHS and mark their choices in that.

  • A third option MBBS aspirants can apply for is to the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. The DGHS will separately open the application process on behalf of AFMC Pune and candidates will have to apply with their NEET score through DGHS. While all other colleges confirm or reject admissions on the basis of NEET scores alone, AFMC Pune uses the NEET scores to shortlist candidates for an institutional-level screening process.

  • A fourth application option for which candidates can only apply for if eligible is as a ward of an insured person under the ESIC scheme, for admissions to 332 Insured Persons (IPs) Quota seats in ESIC Institutions.

Apart from these 4 institutional options made available by the DGHS, candidates will have the chance to further apply to two (or more) types of institutions. One of these is the colleges the candidate’s state Government will allow them to apply for admissions under 85% state quota seats. And finally, they will be able to apply for private college seats in other states by filling the application forms offered by the states of their choice. They can also later apply separately and directly to Central and Deemed Universities if these have seats vacant after DGHS Counselling is concluded.
