what are the jobs after doing phd in astrophysics . is there govn. job?

Astrophysics is a very interesting branch. There are jobs which are pretty well paid.

The different jobs include that of a cognitive space engineer, postdoctoral researcher, scientific journalist, data scientist, etc.  It takes a Ph.D., a number of post-doctoral stints before ending up with a permanent job at an organization. The other kinds of jobs that one might get after a Ph.D. degree are of plasma physicist, atmospheric scientist, etc.

Some places where aspirants can get a job are Bhaba Atomic Research Centre, National Centre for Radio Astrophysics in Pune, ISRO, Technology Information Forecasting & Assessment Control, IIST, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, TATA Institute of Fundamental Research etc.

IIAP has job listings currently for research scientists, university faculty, project-specific assistants, project engineers, Engineer B (Optical), Engineer B (Mechanical). National Centre for Radio Astrophysics has a job opening for administrative officer currently.

So yes, though the field is a niche here in India yet there are jobs that one can get after doing a Ph.D. in astrophysics.

Astrophysics

The study which covers the every detail about the properties of stars, planets and the galaxies is referred as Astrophysics or Astronomy. This option is totally different from the other and can be completed after graduation only.

The Indian Institute of Astronomers and several other astronomical institutions offer the job opportunity as Junior Research Scientist after completing the course successfully. Later in future after experience and achievements job opportunities are available with famous government institutes like DRDO and ISRO.

· Education - you can’t be a Professor, but you could manage a lab, or a school’s observatory, or work in public outreach, or work at a planetarium or science center.
