Hello

There are actually two sets of optional subjects one are the subject or course related and the other is literature. There are 25 optional subjects in UPSC civil services exam and 23 literature optional subjects.

The Optional Subjects are the important part of UPSC CSE, Candidates have to choose one Optional Subject for the Written Mains Exam. The optional subject has Two Papers and each paper accounts for 250 Marks.
List of available optional Subjects in UPSC CSE are as followings:
1. Agriculture
2. Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
3. Anthropology
4. Botany
5. Chemistry
6. Civil Engineering
7. Commerce & Accountancy
8. Economics
9. Electrical Engineering
10. Geography
11. Geology
12. History
13. Law
14. Management
15. Mathematics
16. Mechanical Engineering
17. Medical Science
18. Philosophy
19. Physics
20. Political Science & International Relations
21. Psychology
22. Public Administration
23. Sociology
24. Statistics
25. Zoology

Other optional subject is Indian language & literature in which you can choose any language listed in 8th Schedule of Constitution of India.
For example: Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali Etc. This Paper is just Qualifying in Nature.
