What are the placement statistics of the department of Geology and Geophysics at IIT Kharagpur?

Following information will help you get a clear idea about the asked placement statistics:
- Around 50% students are placed, with a package of around 3 lakh per annum. Only one or two excellent students get more than 10 lakh per annum.
- The rest get employed through GATE and Combined Geo scientist exam.
- Earlier when there was oil and gas sector boom,many MNCs were recruiting from IIT Kharagpur. Nowadays, MNC placements have decreased significantly in geology and geophysics department.
- Some PSUs like CIL and ONGC come for campus drive every year. Most of the PSUs are recruiting through GATE score.
- As of jobs in core, the market is quite volatile and unpredictable. Situation may or may not improve in upcoming years.
