Greetings,

Your under graduation degree and branch do not matter much if you are going to appear for UPSC unless you choose one of your own subjects as optional.

If you want to decide on a subject to study during under graduation then go for the one which is the easiest so that you may get some extra time to prepare for UPSC

You can choose from one of the arts and humanities optional subjects in UPSC which are highly sought after like - Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, etc.

Go for the branch which will not be much of a time consuming experience later on as you near the end of your under graduation so that you can focus your attention of UPSC.

good luck!

Hello, There is no constant trend observed in the civil service exam. Usually people choose their degree that can help in the two optional papers. But since civil service exam is a mixture of all the subjects it is necessary that you have a good foundation in all the subjects. It can be obtained by leaning the ncerts. Usually chosen optional are History, Geography, Public administration ,Agriculture, Sociology ,Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering etc. But it is not necessary to choose among these. You should find a subject that interest you and also it is not necessary to choose the same optional as your degree students take science as an optional subject instead of an engineering paper. Usually the engineering You can obtain the syllabus from this link https://competition.careers360.com/articles/upsc-ias-syllabus .

You can start by reading the newspaper daily and the NCERTS form 6th standard to 12th standard during the college days itself. After that you can read the standard books and take mock tests.

Best wishes.
