what are the types of asexual reproduction
Hello Rohan,
Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction which does not involve the fusion of gametes or change in the number of chromosomes.
Common forms of asexual reproduction are as follows:
Budding (form of asexual reproduction where an offspring grows out of the body of the parent, then breaks off into a new individual) - Hydra
Gemmules (form of asexual reproduction where a parent releases a specialized mass of cells that can develop into offspring) - Sponges
Fragmentation (type of asexual reproduction where the body of the parent breaks into distinct pieces, each of which can produce an offspring) - Planaria
Regeneration (form of asexual reproduction where a new individual develops from a part of another) - Echinoderms
Binary Fission (type of asexual reproduction where the parent cell duplicates its organelles and increases in size by mitosis and the cell then divides into two identical daughter cells) - Paramoecium
Parthenogenesis (asexual reproduction that involves the development of an egg that has not been fertilized into an individual) - Water Fleas
Hope this helps you. We wish you the best for your future endeavours!
Regards
Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction in which only one parent is involved. There are basically 5 types of asexual reproduction. These are
- binary fission,
- budding,
- vegetative reproduction,
- fragmentation
- spores formation.
During fission, the cellular contents are replicated internally and then are divided into two daughter cells. This is seen in bacteria.
Plants reproduce asexually by vegetative propagation. In this, part of plant such as bulb, tuber, rhizome develops into a new plant.
Budding is seen in yeast. In this, new organism develops from a bud at a particular site.
In fragmentation, an organism physically splits and develops into new organisms from each segment. It is seen in segmented worms.
Spores are produced by bacteria, fungi, algae, plants. This spore later develops into new organism.
Thank you
Hello Student ,
Asexual Reproduction is of several types .It is also known as agamogenesis or agamogeny:
1) Fission : Body of parent individual divides into two or more similar daughter individuals.
- Binary Fission - Eg -Yeast
- Multiple Fission- Eg - Amoeba, Plasmodium
2) Pasmotomy : Division of multinucleate protozoan into multinucleate daughter individuals. Eg- Opalina
3)Budding : In budding a small external outgrowth appears over parent's body which later develops into a miniature individual. It then seperates from the parent body. Eg - Hydra
4)Gemmulation : The parent individual produces specialised mass of cells enclosed in common opaque envelope to form gemmule. Eg - Sponges
5) Fragmentation : Parents body breaks into distinct pieces each of which develop into a independent individual. Eg - Bryophytes
6)Zoospores and Conidia : This is seen in members of kingdom Fungi.
7) Vegetative Reproduction : Seen in plants mainly. The produce new individuals from underground stem, leaves, roots and other vegetative structures.
8) Special Case : Encystation and Sporulation
Seen in Amoeba , During adverse condition it secretes a three layered , hard , chitinious covering around itself .This phenomenon is termed as encystation . During favourable condition amoeba divides by multiple fission and produces numerous minute amoeba or pseudopodiospores. T he cyst wall bursts out and spores are liberated. This is known has sporulation.
