Dear Shalini, there are various forms that you can apply for. The most imp one as you mentioned is GATE.

Others are-

• ISRO CS EXAM
• CAT
• GMAT
• Public Sector Banks
• GRE/TOFEL (for doing MS from foreign universities)
• UPSC

There are various other options also but these are most widely chosed. You can apply for all these exams during your final year or after graduation which one you like.

Coming to your PSU's question. PSUs recruite students on the basis of their gate score. PSU Recruitment through GATE announced by each company will specify the GATE score that will be considered. Mostly it is for the current year and in some case the past year. Generally, GATE scores are used for shortlisting but in some instances they are used for direct recruitment. This solely depends upon the PSUs and you will have to check each one to know the selection process. For instance, BSNL didn’t conduct any interview for recruitment for its BSNL JTO Recruitment while NTPC went further to conduct another test for further shortlisting. However, generally, a personal interview and in some cases a group discussion are the screening tools used for PSU recruitment through GATE.
