Before branching out to Astrophysics it is important to get a degree in B.Sc. Physics as it lays the foundation for branching out into Astrophysics.  PG level Physics is fundamentally very important from a knowledge point of view as the Physics is at an extremely high level in this rarefied field of Astrophysics.

Loyala College and Madras Christian College are in the top most colleges in Chennai for B.Sc. Physics. After this you need to do your PG at one of the top institutes like IITs, Indian Institute of Science, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Osmania University etc.

Please branch out into this field only if you are really passionate about Astronomy as this field is highly research and data oriented.  Also attaining a PhD is very important to do well in this field.

if you are interested in stream of astrophysics and why would not go for B.Sc in astrophysics , it is a undergraduate course which is of 3 years
