Representative Fraction or R.F. is defined as the ratio of distance on the map to the actual distance on the ground and is generally expressed in the form of 1 along with a : (colon) or / (right slash) and a number then, as the one represents the numerator in the fraction, colon is the division operator and the number is the denominator. For example- 1:40,000 or 1/40,000.
