The term Indian classical drama refers to the the ancient Indian dramatic literature and performance in India. The origin of dramatic performance in Indian subcontinent can be traced as back to as early as200 BCE. Kalidas show was in 4th and 5th BCE was arguably Varna Dada ancient India India dramatist.

Indian classical drama has its history starting from 200BCE. Buddhist philosopher Aswaghosa was the first dramatist. Indian classical drama uses both sanskrit and prakrit language to give it a fine bilingual nature. The history resides more in the buddhist literature about Indian theatre. They say since the time of Alexander The Great India came into direct contact of Greek culture and it can be seen in ancient dramas.
