Hi,
Nonverbal communication refers to the ways in which beings convey information about their emotions, needs, intentions, attitudes, and thoughts without the use of verbal language .
Nonverbal communication is the transfer of information i.e one can use body language including eye contact, facial expressions, gestures and more. process of conveying meaning without the use of words either written or spoken For example, smiling when you meet someone conveys friendliness, acceptance and openness.
Importance :- 1. Helps in establishing and maintaining the interpersonal relationships while the verbals only help in communicating the external events. 2. It may add to or complement your verbal message. As a boss, if you pat an employee on the back in addition to giving praise, it can increase the impact of your message
Drawbacks :--
It may act as a barrier to communicating effectively as the recipient could not understand what the sender is trying to say and may interpret it wrongly. People use non-verbals to express emotions and interpersonal attitudes, conduct rituals such as greetings and bring forward one’s personality.
Nonverbal communication is pervasive in both face-to-face and mediated communication. Because much of nonverbal communication operates automatically and often outside of awareness, it provides an efficient means of regulating our social contacts with others. The determinants of biology, culture, gender, personality, and the environment shape stable patterns of nonverbal communication. Nevertheless, the flexibility and utility of nonverbal communication are evident in several distinct functions, including providing information, regulating interaction, expressing intimacy, exercising influence, and managing impressions. Thus, the complementary behavioral and social judgment tracks of nonverbal communication constitute an indispensable system for navigating our social worlds.
Hope this helps.
Hi
By Nonverbal communication we mean the communication you we make while interacting with someone without using any words .
In layman terms , the communication without speaking is nothing but nonverbal communication as verbal means through words so non verbal means without words.
You communicate nonverbally with the help of ----------) hand gestures ----------) facial expression ----------) body poster or body movement
For example, When you see a friend of yours who is at some distance then you simply wave your hand and your friend interprets it as an hello. Here in this example, you didn't say/speak anything to your friend but still you said hello without speaking and that's how you used hand gesture to communicate non verbally.
Thankyou
