Every year in JEE mains there is a qualifying cutoff score or percentile.
If your JEE mains score is greater than these cutoff percentile scores then you are said to be qualified in JEE Mains and you are also eligible to give JEE advanced exam.
Basically in simple words you can give JEE advanced exam only when you, qualify the JEE mains exam.
Now as you told that you have got 83 percentile in JEE mains then you should properly mention your category that in which category you have got 83 percentile score.
This year the qualifying cut off percentile score set by NTA in JEE mains for general candidates was around 90 percentile. So if you are a General candidate then sorry you are not qualified in JEE mains and thus you are not eligible to give Jee advanced exam. For OBC ,SC , ST, general ews and pwd category candidates, the qualifying cutoff percentile scores is respectively around 72, 50, 39, 70 and 0.1. So if you belong to these categories, then you are qualified in JEE mains exam 2020 and you are eligible to give JEE advanced.
As now the 75% in class 12th board exam criteria is relieved (just you have to pass in your class 12th exams ) but still you must qualify the JEE mains, for becoming eligible to give jee advanced.
