Physics ;    1 : a science that deals with matter and energy and their interactions. 2a : the physical processes and phenomena of a particular system.

Physics(Bachelor of science) is more theoretical than practical. One who completes hisBSc. will have most of the theoretical knowledge ( which is needed when you opt to go for teaching) and lacks practical knowledge. On the other handBTech.( Bachelor of Technology) involves both practical and well as theory.Engineering physicsorengineering sciencerefers to the study of the combined disciplines of Physics, mathematic, Engineering particularly computer, nuclear, electrical, electronic, materials or mechanical engineering. Dear Aspirant,

Engineering physics or engineering science refers to the study of the combined disciplines of physics, mathematics and engineering, particularly computer, nuclear, electrical, electronic, materials or mechanical engineering. By focusing on the scientific method as a rigorous basis, it seeks ways to apply, design and develop new solutions in engineering. Engineering physics or engineering science degrees are respected academic degrees awarded in many countries. It can be taught at the undergraduate level and is often designed as an honors program at some universities due to the rigorous nature of the academic curriculum which covers a wide spectrum of scientific disciplines.

Engineering Physics is basically a very broad branch, as opposed to a regular BSc. We have a number of core physics courses, alongside the options of minors, and electives (department electives as well as open electives). Having said that, a lot of EP students also move on to branches as diverse as mathematics and management later on. Also, since a lot of lab courses in our department are on electronics (very useful to a physicist as well), one may have the option

of going to grad school with electronics.

So the basic difference is that there is a lot of liberty in terms of electives in EP. All the exposure to electronics is extremely valuable, especially from the perspective of experimental physics. If you're considering a career in Physics, this understanding of basic electronics would be a great skill to have in your repertoire

Coming to EP at IIT, our department has a great culture, wherein the UG students get the opportunity of working on projects under really awesome professors, right from their first year, something not seen anywhere else in India, except probably IISc. We have a small department which helps in developing

a close-knit community of the students and the professors, which is really useful when you are applying for PhD programs abroad.

Hope I have made myself clear.

Best Wishes!
