Dear Student.

The difference between the two would be that, Deemed university are universities that are essentially a grade given to a particular college or institute, who have the power to set their own guidelines and fee structure. Whereas, Private colleges are ones that have to follow many norms and many colleges and institutes operate under it. However both operate under UGC.

There is not much difference between the day as they both operate under UGC, but the difference in the two would more depend on personal preference.

Hi there!

The Private University and Deemed University are not the same, they have a bit of difference between them.

Private university is bound to follow the rules and norms of UGC (University Grant Commission).

On the other hand, Deemed University is an autonomous body. They decide their own fee structure and are permitted to give their own degree. They are not bound to follow the norms of UGC.

In my opinion, a deemed university is better than the private one, as it has to maintain the quality of education that is being provided.

Also, the status of Deemed University is given to those institutions where exceptional performance is being carried out in the fields of research and publications.

Hope it helps.

Hi Zainab,

Deemed universities are those universities or colleges that are functioning with the approval of UC as Deemed to be universities seeing there good quality education. These universities only a single or two institutions under them and they have power to set their own educational guidelines and fee structure. while private universities or colleges have to follow lot of norms and many institutes and colleges are operated under it.

Deemed universities has higher fees than private colleges and also deemed universities will have better educational environment and teaching faculty.

Feel free to ask doubts in the Comment Section.

I hope this information helps you.

What if the college comes in two types? Private and deemed. Eg: Christ college, deemed university in Bangalore and the private one in Pune. Not much difference right?? They both are the best right??

hello aspirant,

Both are recognised by the UGC. However, a Deemed university enjoys autonomy in administration while a Private university has to adhere to UGC rules and regulations in conduction classes, exams, syllabus and admission process.

Deemed universities are not as bad as people may think them to be. They are autonomous, and have the infrastructure that can give a student the thrust towards a career that they have dreamt of. And yes, it is not just about the education; they also offer placements to their students.

you can choose either of them based on the academics, campus and placement rates.

hope that helps

Hey dear, the private universities have to follow so much rules and regulations and many other colleges and institutes are under it. Whereas, when we say deemed, it is the power given to a certain private universities so that they can make their own rules of guidelines, norms and fee structure. A private university is converted into deemed university.
