what happens due to higher lesions of median nerve ?
Site of Injure in Higher lesion - Around Elbow
Lesion Can happen due to - Supracondylar fracture of Humerus and Pronator teres syndrome(Entrapment of median nerve between the two heads of pronator teres)
Motor Loss -
- Forearm in Supine Position.
- Weak wrist flexion.
- Ulnar deviation on attempted flexion.
- Loss of interphalangeal flexion at index and middle fingers- Benediction Hand.
- Pointing index finger - Ochsner's Clasping Hand.
- Loss of terminal phalanx of thumb fexion. Pinch defect. Ape thumb deformity.
- Paralysis of two lumbricals of index and middle fingers and thenar muscles.
Sensory Loss - Loss of sensation in lateral half of the palm and lateral 3.5 digits(including nailbeds)
The motor are sensory loss that occur due to median nerve injury are discussed above.
