VIT will conduct online Counselling and Candidates are expected to attend the Counselling should they want to take admission in VIT. There is no other way out for that. That not just with VIT but with every Admission process. You cannot take admission without attending the Counselling when a Counselling process is involved in taking admissions. And like wise, if you attend the Counselling but do not want to take admission, you are free to do so. When you attend VIT Counselling during registration, you pay a non refundable amount of Rs.10,000. If you have been allotted a seat then, you need to take a DD of Rs.50,000 towards the confirmation of the seat. Now let's say you have paid the Rs.10,000 and attended the Counselling. You have been allotted a seat but do not want to take it up. You will have to forgo the Counselling fee of Rs.10,000 which will not be refunded to you. But you need not pay the DD of Rs.50,000 and confirm the seat. This is because you do not want to take admission. So it is not necessary to take admission because you have attended the Counselling. At the end of the day, it is always your call to either take up the seat allotted or not. But to get admission, you need to attend the Counselling.
