Jajmani system or Yajman system was an economic system most notably found in villages of India in which lower castes performed various functions for upper castes and received grain or other goods in return. Reciprocal social and economic arrangements between families of different castes within a village community in India, by which one family exclusively performs certain services for the other. Yogendra Singh describes jajmani system as a system governed by relationship based on reciprocity in inter-caste relations in villages.
