Hello Deepak Solanki,

UPTU(now APJAKTU) has enormous number of colleges which at all not required. India produce more than million engineers every year while jobs are a lot less near about 2 lakh per year. so the quantity of engineering graduates is more than required and because of high supply of engineers there is a high competition. Now UPTU tag does not provide you a distinctive advantage over other engineers as premier colleges provide like IITs and NITs.

When companies need cheap labour they recruit from UPTU and that too in selected colleges like JSS, AKG, Galgotia, KIET, ABES and few more. Rest of the colleges are on their mercy. Placement department contact the companies to come to their campus with out any conditions. Unlike in IITs and NITs where colleges do have a say. Here companies are the real boss. They sometimes visit campus like they are providing Royal jobs with the salary of 1.8 lpa per annum that too after training period.

If you want to distinguish yourself from other engineers which is herd of millions, you have to work a lot and college often resist you bcoz you don't follow their norm to be average. UPTU final exams are conducted centrally by university so all the private and government colleges from IET to JSS, AKG have same question paper. The level of question paper has become very low over the years. You feel like you have to cram and write. Your answers would be judges by number of pages you have written and your hand writing(specially in theory subject) other than the content. Sometimes copies go missing too and God knows how they give marks in result after that.

There is attendance restriction from university i.e. 75% and top private colleges follow that. Other colleges don’t follow the policy. Internal marks which are to be given as per performance of student in college is gifted in lower level colleges just to raise the percentage of students of their college and top private colleges don’t easily give internals. So B.tech percentage will different for same student depending on which college he/she studies. Hence, B.Tech percentage has minimal value. You need a certain percentage i.e. 65%-70% to appear in campus placement/GATE/CAT(or whatever) other than that even being university topper doesn’t add much value.

Other than some private colleges and government colleges which roughly adds upto 50. I don't consider others as college. The condition is awful for rest colleges. In UPTU big claims are made but reality is zero. So don’t take admission in just any engineering college. Get it straight, If you don't get admission to premier colleges of India than only you should consider UPTU colleges.

Every state has few selected colleges which are good other than that rest are just to get a b.tech degree and most of the colleges of state universities are considered as Tier-3. If you want to get a job in private sector go for CS/IT. If you don't get good college in CS opt IT branch in the same college. There is not much difference in these two but IT branch cutoff is low as per CS so you can get a college in IT if CS is full.

Get the fact straight other branches in private colleges don’t get placed much. And most of the students from other branches are placed in software companies so ultimately many people don’t get jobs in the branch they studied. There are few government jobs and If you clear IES/GATE or any other exam than you can get a government job. I never understand how AICTE gives approval to the engineering colleges. If AICTE had properly controlled engineering education, things would not be so bad.

If you get admitted in good private UPTU college and perform well in academics, technical, communication and aptitude after btech you can expect a package of 3.5 lpa - 4lpa in a software company. Also note that IT sector is already overcrowded but if you are really good you will get the job. IT sector recruit freshers in good number as they have to pay less salary to them but they are a lot freshers so high competition.

HBTI Kanpur does not come under UPTU, they take admissions through it so it is better than any government/private college of UPTU.

Being in UPTU, They will make you feel that you are IIT rejected

Edit- UPTU government colleges are now trying to be autonomous. IET Lucknow, KNIT Sultanpur, MMMUT Gorakhpur will be autonomous colleges but the level of these colleges will not change in near future.
