Hello there,

Blastula: It is an early stage of embryonic development in animals, formed after cleavage of the zygote. It is a hollow ball of cells filled with fluid, with a single-layered structure. Found in non-mammalian organisms like frogs and fish.

Blastocyst: It is a specialized blastula in mammals, containing an inner cell mass (ICM) that later forms the embryo. It has an outer layer called the trophoblast, which helps in implantation in the uterus.

In short, blastula is the general term, while blastocyst is specific to mammals.

I hope this answer helps you. If you have more queries then feel free to share your questions with us we will be happy to assist you.

Hello,

Blastula and blastocyst are early stages of embryo development.

  • Blastula : It is a hollow, spherical structure formed in early embryonic development in animals. It consists of a single layer of cells (blastoderm) surrounding a fluid-filled cavity (blastocoel). This stage comes after the morula stage.

  • Blastocyst : It is a specialized form of the blastula found in mammals. It has an outer layer of cells (trophoblast) that later forms the placenta and an inner cell mass (ICM) that develops into the embryo. The blastocyst implants in the uterus.

In short, a blastula is a general term for early embryos, while a blastocyst is a specific term used for mammals.

Hope it helps !
