What is CAT exam? How should I prepare for that.

CAT stands for common admission test this is a Computer Based online exam held in India and it is organised by IIMs in an alternate manner just like JEE advanced. The test checks a students verbal and reading comprehension, quantitative ability and data interpretation and logical reasoning.CAT is widely recognised by many Indian business institutes such as IIM, and many other instutes for postgraduate and fellow programs.
Eligibility criteria
- A candidate who wish to appear for that must hold a bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks and 45% for SC ST and PWD categories
- Candidates who are in the final year of their bachelor degree are also eligible to apply for CAT.
- Candidateswhich holds a professional degree such as CA CS ICWA with the required percentage are also eligible.
The exam pattern
The pattern of CAT has been changed in the past at various times but if you go with the last year's Pattern then there in total 100 questions which comprises of 300 marks and which are divided into 3 sections for each correct answer you will be awarded + 3 marks and for each incorrect answer you will be penalized for one mark.
Brief Details of Syllabus for CAT
The syllabus can be broadly divided into three parts as per the sections.
- Quantitativeaptitude: This part mainly deals with the basic mathematics which you learn till class 10th and include topics such as geometry algebra and number systems so if you are a student from mathematics background then you will find this part to be very easy and if you practice a little then you can is score a good is percentile in this part. The exact syllabus is number system, geometry algebra, permutation and combination, mixtures and alligations, ratios and proportions, Logarithm, time and work functions trigonometry cordinate geometry and mensuration
- Verbal ability and reading comprehension:this section mainly check your knowledge of language it comprises of few grammar based questions and some messages are given so based on the passages you will be asked questions so if you have a good command over English and practice then you will find this section easy for this section you should try to read English newspaper and listen to the English news so that you get a good knowledge over the time of English so that you perform well in the exam. The exact syllabus is verbal reasoning, antonyms and synonyms, and allergies and rivers and allergies sentence correction form effects interference judgements, critical reasoning, fill in the blanks, syllogism summary questions passage based
- Logical reasoning and data interpretation: This section test your data handling capacity and your intelligence in processing the data and arranging and bringing out the helpfull information from the data so in this section you will face questions on seating arrangement direction and you will find some questions on graphs.the exact syllabus is area graph, Venn diagram, line and pie charts, column and bar graphs, caselets and tables, number and letter series, syllogism, calendar and cubes me directions, blood relations, binary logic coding decoding logical sequence, Matrix and linear arrangement.
Institutes which accept CAT score.
CATis organised by IIMs therefore it is Prerequisite for admission to their business administration program apart from IIM there are various prestigious management colleges in the country which offers admission based on CAT score this includes SP Jain Institute of management and Research, faculty of management studies, management development Institute, National Institute of industrial engineering, Institute of management Technology.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR CAT
Before going to start the preparation for that you need to know certain things and after analysing few points you can start your preparation this includes first of all you need to know about the CAT exam once you understand the proper better then it will be very easy for you to start your preparation then comes the syllabus of exam you should be well versed with the syllabus of the exam because unless you know the syllabus you want study at all then comes the self introspection because it is unlike other exams here you need to be focused and as the process of taking admission into various institutes in bother procedure such as group discussion and personal interviews in that is there for you should be comfortable with this then comes the proper study material you should analyse whether you it is better for you to join the coaching classes or doing a self study or online study.
Here are few points which will help you to prepare for CAT.
- Start with your basics because once your basics are strong you will proceed further with a faster pace.
- Don't roam within the syllabus just prepare a timetable and give proper time to all the three sections of the exam because if you don't make a proper time table then it may happen that you will give some more time to other it is your favourite section and lose in the other.
- The another important aspect of CAT preparation is time management because it is the age when you have a pressure of your future as well as if you are working professional then you have pressure from your work so it is better to have a good time table and manage your study accordingly and also don't forget to make a progress report because this will reflect how you are utilising the day and in the progres
