Dear Aspirant,

AILET and CLAT both are the two most popular and important law entrance exams of the country. AILET stands for All India Law Entrance Test and CLAT stands for Common Law Admission Test. While both the tests serve the law aspirants, there are few factors that make them different from each other.

Being the most sought-after law exams across the country, it is natural for students to face the dilemma of choosing between two tests.

Here is the difference between them for your better understanding.

THE PARTICIPATING INSTITUTES

CLAT is way ahead from AILET when it comes to the institutes which accept the candidates based on the exam. CLAT has 19 national universities participating in the test while AILET is just for one institute, that is NLU or National Law University, Delhi.

CONDUCTING BODY

CLAT is conducted on rotational basis by the participating institutes and as we have seen that AILET has only one participating institute, its the only one which conducts the exam. For instance, For the academic session 2018- 19, CLAT will be conducted by National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi.

LEVEL OF COMPETITION

CLAT offers 3000 seats in all National universities under it. So the success rate for the same is 6% as 50,000 students appear for this exam.

AILET has 110 seats under it and more than 18000 students appear for the test. So the success rate is around 0.006%.

So the competition in AILET is huge. So if you are appearing for both, there is more chance that you will get selected in CLAT rather than AILET.

The paper patterns and syllabus are mostly the same for both. Even the marking is the same.

Hope this helps. All the best!

  2. The exam is of 2 hours duration.
  3. Subject                                          Number of questions

All India Law Entrance Test (AILET)

NLU Delhi only considers AILET scores to offer admission to aspirants in law programmes whereas to get admission in rest of NLUs is on the basis of CLAT score. Hope this information is helpful.

Hello, Shiv!

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) - It is an all India level test, and the most important law test conducted in the country. It will land you into the 17 best law universities of India, called NLU’s or the National Law Universities. Several other private universities also look at your CLAT scores before granting admission.

All India Law Entrance Test (AILET)- It is conducted by the National Law University, Delhi. It is a highly competitive test, with a very limited number of seats.

If you compare the number of applicants per seat, then definitely AILET is a tougher exam as compared to CLAT.
