what is difference between diploma lateral entry for B.tech and regular B.Tech
Hi,
B.Tech or Bachelor of Technology is a 4-year undergraduate engineering degree in any of the streams like Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical, etc. For admission to the degree candidates are required to give national or state level entrance tests or complete the admission criteria of the particular institute.
B.Tech Lateral entry is also the same undergraduate engineering degree but here candidates are admitted directly to the 2nd year of the degree. Candidates must fulfill the eligibility for B.Tech lateral entry to get direct admission to 2nd year of the degree.
Eligibility Criteria of B.Tech Lateral Entry
- Candidates must have passed a Diploma in relevant field with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for reserved category).
- OR
- Candidates must have passed B.Sc with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for reserved category) and class 12th with Mathematics as compulsory subject.
- Candidates must also satisfy the domicile requirements, age limit requirements set by the state in which they are taking admission.

The only significant difference is that the duration of regular B . Tech is 4 years whereas B . Tech LE is of 3 years. In B.Tech. LE, Students take admission in the second year of the regular B . Tech program after completing their engineering diplomas.
Hello Aditya,
Diploma students are those who after their 10th Board, instead of going to normal Science branch to study 11 and 12 th and then going to Engineering, select Diploma education.
The Diploma generally last for 3 years , and they get a lot of practical knowledge . In 11th and 12th normally we study for physics, chemistry, maths and prepare for JEE while they get hands-on experience in engineering.
The students with good grades in Diploma(after 3 years), get chance to directly apply for the 2nd year of Engineering, which is called as ' Diploma Lateral Entry '.
What is difference between diploma lateral entry for B.tech and regular B.Tech?
The difference is that the diploma students will have to continue from the 2nd year of the b.tech programme where as regular b.tech students will have to continue from the Ist year of the b.tech programme.
Diploma students will have practical knowledge as compared to regular b.tech students because the diploma students will be made to learn the engineering courses soon after 10th standard. Regular students soon after 10th will be taught regular subjects and mainly focused on JEE and EAMCET
Diploma students join the B.Tech through lateral entry and they are having the practical hand for the last three years compared to regular student who only have one year of practical knowledge.
During B.Tech much stress is given on theory rather than practical’s, but in diploma both have equal scaling .So in term of practical knowledge diploma students are superior than regular one.
