Hi Dear,
JEE Main paper 1 is to get admission into B.Tech (Engineering), where as Paper 2 is to get admission into B.Arch .Both the papers are independent of each other. But when it comes to JEE advanced it is mandatory to attempt both the papers and clear both the papers ( cut off will be there even for subject wise marks also).
All the best

hi,
the jee mains has two sections as following,
paper 1 is for all undergraduate engineering courses except b.arch and paper 2 is only for the students who wants to pursue their career in b.arch course i mean the students who wants to take architecture course only have to give jee main paper 2 exam.
it is not complusory to give both.
jee advanced has different concept, you've to give both paper 1 and 2 in jee advanced to enter into iit's.if any students doesn't give their enough best in paper 1 can use paper2.if you omtting any one paper of jee advanced, then your papers will not be evaluated.
all the best!
