Its is organized to get admission in National Institute of Science Education and Research and the centre of Excellence in Basic Science. This Institutes mainly take into account the result of this exam for admission. Integrated Science Education and Research Centre is also using it for admission

Joint Entrance Screening Test is a National level exam and it is conducted and controlled jointly by the Institutes like IISC, IISERs, NISER. This test allows candidates to purse their PhD or Integrated PhD in one of the participating Institutes by qualifying JEST.
