There are some general and some special requisites.

The general requirement:

1. Indian citizen

2. must not be residing in U.S. during recruitment and placement cycle (February 2022-July 2023)

3. High level of academic/ professional achievement

4. Proficiency in English .

5. Must be in good health.

6. Must be eligible to leave if employed

7. must not be a green card holder

8. must give an undertaking that they will return to India after fellowship.

Specific requirement for Master's:

must have completed an equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree from a recognized Indian university with at least 55% marks.

Applicants must either possess a four-year bachelor's degree or a completed master's degree; or a full-time postgraduate diploma from a recognized Indian institution, if the bachelor's degree is of less than four years' duration;

must have at least three years' full-time (paid) professional work experience relevant to the proposed field of study by the application deadline;

must not have another degree from a U.S. university or be enrolled in a U.S. degree program; and

The Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship is  awarded to indian  students who demonstrate qualities of leadership, have great academic records, and work experience. The fellowship is offered for one year or two years, depending upon the duration of the selected master’s degree program in USA university.

The Selection committee grants fellowship to only those candidates that who are committed to return to India after completing the course and are willing to contribute to the country’s development.

Following criteria must be met for applying for this fellowship:-

1. Candidate must have completed their undergraduate degree from recognised institute and scored minimum of 55% in undergraduate degree

2. Candidate must posses the leadership skills and community service experience.

3. Candidate must have work experience in the field of study for a minimum of 3 years.

4. Candidate must prove their proficiency in English language by providing ILETS or TOEFL scores. A minimum of 6.0 ILETS score or equivalent TOEFL/PTE score is required.

The eligible field of study are :-  Environmental Science, International Affairs, Economics, Urban And Regional Planning, International Legal Studies, Public Health, Arts and Culture Management, Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Gender Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication.
