Let me explain this in very basic language.
It is just another chemical reaction where atoms are seperated, these atoms can either be single or in pair or more, are seperated from the molecule.
Generally it happens when molecule is given heat then it breaks down but this process is also done by adding acid or base to the molecule, reaction happens and then atoms get seperated.
There are three types of elimination reaction and these are E1 type, E2 type and E1cb type.
Please note that it is one of the organic reaction in which heat play an important role along with acid and base. The atoms are removed either in one step or two step mechanism.
