GATE 2025: Syllabus | Sample Papers
Dear Sonali,
GATE is an aptitude exam for engineers for admission in Post Graduate course in Engineering i.e. MTech from colleges like IITs, IISc, NITs, etc and also for a job in various PSUs() with a starting salary of around 10lpa. This is one of the most sought after exams for engineers all across the country. For engineers from core branches like Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil, GATE is more about JOB than PG.
For engineers of Computer Science, the exam is more about PG from Top IIT/IISc rather than JOB.
GATE exam consists of two sections basically, one is for the aptitude and Mathematics part, other is from your subjects from your branch. For every branch GATE paper is different, so does their admissions and jobs. The exam is conducted in Feb and results are declared in March.
Students can also use their GATE score in their resume for admission in various private companies also as many of the private companies give preference to students who have a good GATE score than the students who don't.
However, GATE is not an easy exam, in fact, one of the most difficult exams in the country and getting a job in PSUs and admission in IITs/IISc is not that easy. You must have to have a 3 figure rank for getting any benefit of the exam, and for PSU the first number of those figures must be 1.
