As a general rule the public universities are cheaper to private ones.
The IIT+ family ( Institutes - IITs, ISM, RGIPT, IIST) charge around 2.5 Lacs per year. (No fee fikes for a particular batch)
The NIT+ family (Institutes - NITs, IIITs (govt run)) charge around 1.25L per year(No fee hikes).
BITS Pilani (Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad campuses) charge around 3 Lacs per year(BITS follow 10% fee hikes in 2 years).
IIIT Hyderabad/ IIIT Bengaluru - 3.5 Lacs to 4.0 Lacs per year respectively. They have 10-15% fee hikes.
LNMIIT /JIIT/Thapar /Nirma/VIT / MIT Manipal/ UPES - These are private and they charge anywhere between 3.5Lacs to 5.5 Lacs per year. Fee hike rules are strict, and often more frequent.
State govt. engineering colleges - From the very cheap at 10k a month to some some 1.5Lacs. Even cheaper options are existant by means of govt. scholarships by various state governments, sometimes people take money home (can say negative fees) for studying in one of these. Fee hikes are rare.
Note- The IIT+ and NIT+ Institutes don't hike fees once you are admitted, that is the 2015 admitted batch pays around 1.5L an year but the 2016 batch pays around 2.5L an year. Both will keep paying the same with no fee hike in tuition for the rest of the course. In other colleges, a fee hike is applicable to everyone. So a BITS student in 2015 or 2016 will pay the same hiked fee
Hi Nikhil.
Fee structure for B.tech at different colleges are different. Some of the colleges have a fee of aroud 50k per semester while some of them charge 100k per sem. You can study for as low as 10k per month in government colleges. this is only tuition fee and fee for hostel and mess are extra. this also varies from college to college. Govt. colleges can cost very low upto less than 500 per month for room and 2000 for mess while for some colleges, it can go upto 2000 or 3000 or more for room and 5000 or more for mess. And, there will be extra fee for exam, library etc. to get the exact details, please tell me the college that you're asking about. Or, go to the website of that college where you can find the detailed fee structure.
Thanks.
