IIIT can refer to either International Institute of Information Technology or Indian Institute of Information Technology (except IIITD : Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology ). All of them are similar in academic status.
So, in a broader aspect, IIITs are a group of Higher Educational Institutes in India mainly focused at Information Technology (IT) . They provide engineering courses on IT or its related fields like CSE, ECE and some of them also offer Dual degrees like (B.Tech.+M.Tech.), (IT/Mechanical+Engineering Design), (B.Tech.+MBA courses) and (B.Tech. + MS(Research)).
Admission to IIITs are provided on the basis of JEE(Mains) scores and AIR.
Based on funding, IIITs can be of three different types :-
1. Fully funded by Govt. of India (MHRD) :-

-IIIT Gwalior
-IIIT Kanchipuram
-IIIT Kurnool

2. PPP (Public-Private-Partnership) :-
-IIIT Chitoor

-IIIT Sonepat
-IIIT Lucknow
-IIIT Una and many others.

3. Funded by private bodies :-
-IIIT Hyderabad
-IIIT Bangalore
-IIIT Bhubaneswar

*IIIT-Delhi is a State Govt. institute of Delhi.

International Institutes like IIIT-H are usually private and so, are not aided by the government. While most of the Indian Institutes like IIIT-A are either funded by MHRD or come under PPP.

some of indian institute of information technology are established by mhrd and mainly focus on information and computer science and technology. some of the iiits are IIT Allahabad , IIIT Gwalior , IIIT Jabalpur , IIIT Kancheepuram. however iiit delhi is established by state government of delhi, b.tech admission in iiits are done by josaa counselling basis on jee main score.

international institute of information technology are autonomous institute and fees structure is high compare to  indian institute of information technology. however it has many industry collaboration, admission is based on both jee main score and own entrance test.
