TheMedical Council of India(MCI) is a statutory body for establishing uniform and high standards ofmedical educationinIndia. The Council grants recognition of medical qualifications, givesaccreditationtomedical schools, grants registration to medicalpractitioners, and monitors medical practicein India. The current President of MCI is Dr. Jayshreeben Mehta.



Now the Supreme Court has allowed the Central Government to replace the medical council and with the help of five specialized doctors monitor the medical education system in India, from July 2017.



The NITI Aayog has recommended the replacement of Medical Council of India (MCI) with National Medical Commission (NMC). The decision has been approved by most states and after its approval by the Prime Minister it will be proposed as final bill in the upcoming parliamentary sessions.

Hi Rishav, MCI is a abbreviation of Medical council of india, it is the apex body which regulate the medical - MBBS ,Postgraduate and superspeciality colleges. Like DCI i.e. Dental Council of india for BDS and MDS courses regulation. Now the government is in the process of replacing this MCI with NMC i.e. National Medical Commission. MCI stands for Medical Council of India, the country’s primary regulatory authority for allopathic medical education for more than six decades. Infact MCI is responsible for determining NEET syllabus.It is reponsible for counselling process of MBBS/BDS through NEET.
