Hello !!
Hypothesis basically means supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as the starting point for further investigation. A statistical hypothesis is assumption about a famous parameter. This is just an assumption. It has no validity. It can or cannot be true. For example, a statement that a population mean is equal to 15 is a statistical hypothesis. In order to find the best way whether a statistical assumption is true or not is to inspect the complete population. But its impractical mostly, that's why researchers inspect a random sample from the population. If the sample data is not persistent with the statistical hypothesis, then the sample data is discarded.
I hope this helps !
Hi Gitanjali,
Hypothesis in statistics mean to make an assumptions about the parameter of population. May or may not be these assumptions will be true. Also may a researcher conduct a statistical experiment to test the validity of hypothesis. It is also called confirmatory of the data analysis. We can also say that the hypothesis is the the result of the outcome which is the assumption of something before experimenting.
I hope your question has been answered properly.
All the best for your future!
