Genetic Drift is related to the Evolution of population.In other words it is one of the important Mechanisms of evolution of population.Generally ee do have three major forms of evolution Mutation, Natural selection and general drift.The genetic drift changes the composition of genes in the population.The change takes place slowly and become noticible over However it is more rapid and significant in smaller populations.

It is the mechanism of evolution which happened randomly rather than natural selection process.

Genetic drift is a change in the frequency of an allele within a population over time.



In simple words -



Populations of organisms are constantly changing and adapting to their environment. Drastic changes in environmental conditions can sometimes cause drastic changes to the gene pool of the population.Genetic drift is when chance events cause changes in frequencies of alleles in a population



There are no environmental influences that cause genetic drift to occur.

Examples of genetic drift are more evident in smaller populations of organisms.
