National talent search examination (NTSE) is one of the oldest and most prestigious scholarship exams in India. It is a national level scholarship program at the secondary school level identify and recognise students with high intellect academy talent. It is conducted by National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) every year. It is conducted every year at Two levels - Stage-I (State Level), conducted by the States/Union Territories and Stage-II (National Level), conducted by NCERT.
Eligibility criteria for Stage 1
- Students studying in class 10 can appear in test.
- They are required to have obtained 60% marks in their Class IX.
- The SC, ST and PH students have 5% relaxation. They nees to obtain 55% marks in class 9.
- They should be studying in a recognised achool in their respective States.
Eligibility criteria for Stage 2
- Students, securing 80% marks or above in the State level exam, are eligible for the Stage-II .
All students who secure the minimum required marks at Stage-II, are eligible for the scholarship program.
Scholarship Amount
- Scholarship of Rs.1250 per month for class XI and XII.
- Scholarship of Rs.2000 per month for Undergraduate & Post Graduate.
- Scholarship for Ph.D. is provided in accordance with the UGC Norms.
Reservation in NTSE
- 15% Scholarship is reserved for students belonging to the SC Category.
- 7.5% Scholarships is for students belonging to the ST Category.
- 4% for Physically Challenged students.

The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a National Level scholarship program in India to identify and nurture talented students. It honours and helps talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship for the entire Academic Career. Students studying in Class X are eligible to appear for the selection process. As it is organized by an official body (NCERT), it is widely regarded as the most prestigious examination at high school level in India. There is a two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For Stage - I, selection will be done by States/UTs through the written examination. Each State/Union Territory has been allotted a quota to recommend a specific number of candidates for the Stage - II examination, the details of which are available on NCERT website (www.ncert.nic.in). Students who qualify Stage - I will be eligible to appear for Stage - II examination conducted by NCERT.

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is an offline scholarship exam for class 10 students to encourage higher studies in the field of Science and Social science. This exam is conducted by NCERT at two stages. SCERT or other authority of the respective state conduct stage 1 at the state level and stage 2 exam is held by NCERT at the national level. NCERT has prescribed the age limit to appear in the NTSE stage 1. Students should be below the age of 18 years. Students studying in class 10th from recognised schools are eligible to appear in NTSE stage 1. Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyalaya, and Sainik School students can apply for NTSE from the state where their school is located. There will be no domicile restrictions for them.
