Officer’s recruitment is advertised through Employment News and all important national and regional newspapers/dailies. Selection for Permanent Commission through NDA/NA cadet entry and CDSE (Graduate) entry is through a written examination conducted by UPSC, followed by an interview by the Service Selection Board (SSB). For all other Permanent Commission entries and Short Service Commission entries there is no written examination. Applicants are short-listed as per criteria laid down by the Naval Headquarters, (Directorate of Manpower Planning & Recruitment). Selection is through merit alone. The details are enumerated as follows:-
Induction of officers in the various Branches of the Indian Navy is undertaken through one of the following modes or schemes:-
- Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) entries
- Direct Entry Permanent Commission /Short Service Commission
- University Entry Scheme (UES)
It is mandatory that all degrees and educational qualifications are from Educational Institutions recognized by the competent authority in the field. Degrees/mark sheets must be original or self attested, as asked for in the advertisement. No compromise/relaxation will be made on this issue. All candidates desirous of joining the Indian Navy must be physically/mentally fit as per laid down standards. Proficiency in sports, swimming and extra-curricular activities is desirable.

Hello, The Indian Navy Selection Process:
1. Applied candidate should selected on the basis of best performance in Written exam, Physical Efficiency Test, Medical Test.
2. After applying online, Department will upload the Indian Navy admit card in the month of August from official website. In Admit Card contains details for time & place of written exam, PFT date.
(The question paper will comprise of four sections i.e. English, Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge. Qualifying in Physical Fitness Test is mandatory)
3. PFT will consist of 1.6 KM run which is to be complete in 7 Minutes, 20 Squats (Utthak Baithak) and 10 Push Ups. Candidate who are selected in Written test and Physical Fitness Test will call for medical test.
4. The medical standard test consists of minimum height, weight, chest, and eyesight will tested to the level of requirement in armed service as defined by Indian Navy. The candidates are advise to clean their ear for wax and teeth for tartar before applying for this test.
5. The candidates selected for recruitment have to undergo final Enrollment Medical at INS Chilka prior to their recruitment. Any person declared “Unfit” in this final enrollment medical will not allow to join and his candidature will dimmed as disqualified.
