Hello aspirant.

I'm a Production and Industrial Engineering student. This branch deals with the Production Design, Product production, Manufacturing methods, Industry  trends, Thermal, Design & Production Technology along with few more additional subjects.

With my personal experience and knowledge about the branches I could say that Production Engineering is almost same as Mechanical Engineering but only difference is Production Engineering deals with subjects related to Manufacturing, Production, Machine Tool, Production Technology, Inspection and Evaluation more in detail than Mechanical Engineering. Most of the subjects are same for both the branches except few subjects.

The job roles offered for Production Engineers are Production Manager, Inspection Head, Evaluator & Inspectors etc. Only few colleges offers Production & Industrial Engineering.

These is a scope of getting Software as well as Core jobs for this course.

The companies which recruiter Production and Industrial Engineers are

  • Mahindra and Mahindra
  • Ashok Leyland
  • Tata Consultancy Services
  • Accenture Solutions
  • Infosys

The Colleges which offer this course are

  • Chaitanya Bharathi Institute Of Technology, Hyderabad (2 Lakhs per annum) (4 years course)
  • Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal (maximum fees 11.56 Lakhs)
  • Assam Engineering College, Guwahati ( minimum fees 0.32 Lakhs)

Hope this helps you :)

Thank you.

Hello Aspirant,

PRODUCTION ENGINEERING

“Production engineering is a combination of manufacturing technology, engineering sciences with management science. A production engineer typically has a wide knowledge of engineering practices and is aware of the management challenges related to production.”

INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING

“Industrial engineering is a branch of engineering which deals with the optimization of complex processes, systems or organizations. Industrial engineers work to eliminate waste of time, money, materials, man-hours, machine time, energy and other resources that do not generate value.”

Production engineers are responsible for devising exactly how something is going to be made, what machines are going to make it and how it can be made as efficiently and as safely as possible. These products can be anything from newspapers and plastic bottles to tin cans and iPods.

Alternatively, you could even be working to facilitate the transfer of hydrocarbons from oil into the production process. As long as there are a production line and a process, you’re likely to find a production engineer close by.

Good luck!
