Resonance is defined as a phenomenon of the increase in amplitude of oscillation of an electric or mechanical system exposed to a periodic force whose frequency is equal or very close to the natural undamped frequency of the system.
Example is swing, when we push the swing it moves back and forth. Continuous pushing at the regular time intervals will cause an increase in the motion of the swing. If regular pushes are given to the swing, its motion can be built enormously.
