The easiest way to find out what is in demand is to go to Glassdoor and enter "Data Science" and the city you're interested in.



For example, in Berlin there are plenty of open position for all sorts of data scientists, and many of them don't require any German. There are plain Machine Learning roles where PhD is required, there are tons of data engineering and big data roles - very practical ones, where you need to manage some sort of Hadoop cluster, and there are plenty of roles in between.
