In jee mains, the maximum number of attempts allowed is three.
And in jee advanced the maximum number of attempts allowed are two.
Now, in both exams the number of attempts are counted from the year in which you have passed the class 12th examination.
You can give jee mains, in the year you passed your class 12th (first attempt). Also it doesn't depend that whether you have given jee mains in your class 12th passing year or not, your first attempt is counted as over in your class 12th passing year.
Now, if you doesn't get a good rank then you can take first drop and give again the jee mains (second attempt).
Still if you are not satisfied with your rank, then again you can opt for second drop and again you can give jee mains exam ( third attempt).
Now in jee advanced, your first attempt is counted as over in the year that you have passed class 12th, it doesn't matters that your have given jee advanced or not.
Now if you are not satisfied with your jee advanced result, then you can make your first drop and again give jee advanced and this time your all attempts will be counted as over.
So you can not give jee advanced in second drop.
But you can give jee mains in second drop.
