what is the action of acetic acid on ethyl alcohol
Answer (1)
Dear Aspirant
ETHANOIC ACID reacts with ETHANOL inthe presence of concentrated sulphuric acid as a catalyst to produce theester, ethyl ethanoate. The reaction is slow and reversible. To reduce the chances of the reverse reaction happening, the ester is distilled off as soon as it is formed.
CH3COOH + C2H5OH CH3COOC2H5 + H2O.
Thanks
