To get admission in mechanical engineering (B.Tech/diploma/B.E.) first you need to satisfy the eligibility criteria of the college in which you want admission and it varies from college to college, but in general it is around atleast 50% in 10+2 with the required subject from a recognized board. Next, there are two ways of admission: either by merit or by entrance exam. There are entrance exams on national level, state level and university level. National level entrance exam's score are valid in almost all the colleges of India and admission in done by All India Counselling or state counselling. State level entrance exams are valid only for the colleges belonging to that state. State counselling takes admission on the basis of marks/rank achieved by the candidate. And same is for university level exam, but by this exam you can take admission only in that college. You can get more details here:

Some of the all India and state level based entrance examination that you can appear for are, JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, WBJEE, KCET, COMEDK etc. Some of the state level entrance exams have eligibility criteria you are required to qualify for, only after which you can appear for the exam. Then some of the entrance exam conducted by the colleges are, VITEEE, MET, PESSAT etc. After you appear for the examination, a counselling session is held where you will get the result in knowing if you have secured a seat for admission.
