Firstly, it entirely depends on your interest for a subject. Being a Mechanical Engineer and if you have a keen interest in the same, you can go for core jobs.
You'll have to qualify GATE or the individual exams organised by the authorities to get into a core job at PSU's. Qualifying GATE with a good score of pursuing higher studies in IIT's or NIT's.
If however you are planning to pursue management studies you should know that firstly you need to pursue MBA from a reputed B school. It will open the doors for a high paying job and also enhance your professional network. There are also other pros like your leadership, communication, analytical skills etc, will be honed further.
Both have their pros and cons, in the end it all comes down to what your prefer more.
