Hi Aspirant,
Hope you are doing great as per the question asked by you the basic difference can be explained by the following examples:
If 4 students have packages like 2 lakhs, 3 lakhs, 4 lakhs, 3 lakhs so average package can be (2+3+4+3)/4=3 lakhs. So average pakage is 3 lakhs.
And in context of median package if 10 students have package of 6-7 lakhs 3 students have 12 lakhs and 2 students have package 3 lakhs so the median package is around 6.5 lakhs.
Hope you found this answer useful.Stay motivated stay positive.
All the best!
Dear student,
Let me explain you in a very lucid way.
Lets suppose there are 5 students in computer science branch of a college(X) and they are A, B, C, D and E.
Below are the package they got from different companies after completion of 4 years of engineering.
The average package of computer science branch of college(X)= Sum of total package offered to students by total number of students
So, (11+ 10+ 13 + 12 + 14)/5= 60/5 = 12 LAKHS is the average package of college(X) of computer science.
Now to find the median package, arrange the packages in ascending order and then the middle number of the row will be the median. As the name suggest median means middle of something.
Arranging in ascending order:- 10, 11,(12), 13, 14
So the median package of computer science of college(X)= 12 LAKHS
I hope this helps you to understand the difference between these twos.
All the best!!
