Information technology is mainly focused on the application whereas computer science engineering is focused on the theory and the application.

Computer science engineering is mainly  the "why" behind the programming or technology and information technology engineering is "what" in programming .

Computer science offers you to learn variety of topics related to computers while Information technology offers you to discover the innovative uses of those  fundamental concepts.



Mostly there will be programming in both the courses.  In short computer science involves designing of microprocessors , personal computers and designing and writing software that powers them and information technology deals with the software to store , retrieve , process , transmit data securely.



Now the placements in both the branches are almost the same, companies often offer an minimum package of Rs. 3 lakhs to Rs. 10 lakhs per annum or even a highest package of Rs. 24 lakhs per annum .  It actually dosen't matter for a top level institute or a low grade institute, the only difference will be that in top level institutes , better will be the varieties of companies while in a decent institutes there will be less variety of comapanies ,but the packages offered to students will almost be same.
