What is the difference between CSE and IT in terms of education and placements? If I am not getting CSE then is it worth taking IT ?

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai - Kattankulathur Campus offers a 4-year full-time B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology with a total fee of Rs. 7.8 lakhs and Rs. 10 lakhs respectively.

Highlights of the courses:

  • Students are trained to plan, design, install, operate, and maintain complex systems that help medical practitioners in the diagnosis and treatment of various disease
  • Student interaction with 45 Corporate Advisory Board Members from reputed biomedical MNCs

When it comes to the placement then CSE and IT are the two branches almost preferred by all the companies. According to last year placement report, with around 80-85% of the students, the average package offered was Rs. 3.5 lakhs per annum and the highest package was Rs. 21 lakhs per annum with some of the big companies/recruiters who visited the campus are Accenture, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Larsen and Toubro, TCS, Wipro, Hero Motocorp, Directi.

Overall both the course are almost similar in the terms of placement but there is a little difference in the education curriculum. If you still have a dilemma in selecting a course between the two then go for Computer Science Engineering, it will be helpful in the long run.

Feel free to ask if you have any more queries. All the best!!

Yes with 17,000 rank you can get admission in IT department on the main campus as the closing rank last year in IT department was 23,000. You can check all the campuses cut-off with the link given below:https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/srmjeee-cutoff

Hello,

CSE and IT are nearly same, some subjects will matter but the coding languages and some of the practical stuff are same. Only the years will matter like Python programming is in 4 year in CSE and in IT it's in 2 year. There are some extra subject like mechanics, EVS, finance etc in both the programs but it's for some extra knowledge and most important it will help you score better C.G.P.A. . So think 'bout it and start best from beginning.
