What is the difference between M. Sc in computer science and masters in computer applications?
Answer (1)
Hello Aspirant!
Both of these PG courses deal with a high-level knowledge of computation and its related aspects. But the basic key differences are :-
MSc in Computer Science is a course of 2 years duration while duration of MCA is 3 years.
A student needs to be a CS/CT graduate or must have a background in computation and mathematical sciences to pursue M.Sc. in CS. But MCA is a professional degree that can be pursued even by a graduate from any discipline other than B.Sc. in CS.
MSc Computer Science involves the theoretical aspects of computer hardware and software including logic & algorithm and it also helps in building a strong base for research in future, either by doing PhD or working in any commercial setting. On the other hand, MCA deals with Computer Applications i.e. more related to software, its programming and applications.
MSc in Computer Science covers a wide range of areas like Education, Science, Business and Technology. Opportunities in development of software, its testing and networking can be availed by M.Sc.(CS) graduates. Many well known companies like HP, Oracle, Wipro and others hire candidates having the qualification of M.Sc. in Computer Science. But if you want to get hired by top MNCs or other IT companies requiring exceptional programming skills, you can go for MCA.
Hope this answer will be helpful to you.
