Optional English is a subject which you choose just as a elective. It just only gives you a basic knowledge of English grammar and some selected literature. Now English literature is a subject which does indepth analysis in the English Literature as well as English grammar. If you want to study from a broad perspective about the English literature then go for English Literature. But if you just want to get some in general perspective with some subject else then just go for Optional English.
