What is the difference between pH and pKa value? Why pH value does not go beyond value of 14?

Hello Aspirant,

pH is a measure of the concentration of hydrogen ions in an aqueous solution. Whereas pKa is the measure of strength of an acid, it is defined as the negative log of acid dissociation constant.

Theoretically we read that pH value is ranged between 0-14 as defined on pH scale but practically it is positive infinity to negative infinity. It does not go beyond 14 because for above 14 one would require extraordinarily acidic or basic solutions.
